The Pembroke Pines Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) is comprised of highly trained officers who are recruited, selected, trained, equipped and tasked with resolving critical incidents throughout the city. These tactical responses often involve barricaded subjects, active shooter incidents, terrorism, or other critical incidents which would otherwise exceed the capabilities of traditional law enforcement first responders and/ or investigative units.
SWAT Duties and Responsibilities
The SWAT team consist of approximately 40 members to include:
• SWAT Commander 
• SWAT Co-Commander
• Team Leaders
• Assistant Team Leaders
• Entry Team Members
• Snipers
• Dedicated Energetic Breachers
• Swat Medics
• Tactical Vehicle Operators
• Intelligence Officers
• Technology Officers
• Scribes
SWAT trains multiple times a month and several weeks a year in order to maintain an optimum proficiency level. This training is physically and mentally challenging and designed to prepare them for any situation they may encounter. Some of these training include but are not limited to the following:
• Firearms and Specialty Weapons Training
• Mechanical and Energetic Breaching
• Defensive Tactics
• Critical thinking and problem solving
• Tactics & scenario based training
• Physical training and conditioning
• Sniper techniques
• Less lethal munitions
• Rappelling
