***Application window is now closed. We anticipate reopening Summer 2026. Please check back for further updates.***
The Pembroke Pines Fire Cadet Program is a structured, educational, and hands-on initiative designed for high school students ages 14-18 who are interested in pursuing a career in the fire service.
The program introduces participants to the foundational knowledge, skills, and disciplines of firefighting and emergency medical services (EMS) in a controlled, supervised environment. It aims to foster discipline, teamwork, leadership, and a strong sense of public service.
Participants are expected to maintain good academic standing, meet physical requirements, and demonstrate a sincere interest in the fields of fire and EMS.
Cadets receive hands-on Fire Training, including:
- Fire Behavior
- Suppression Techniques
- Hose Handling
- Ladders
- SCBA Use
- Search and Rescue Operations
EMS instruction often includes:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Patient Assessment
- Trauma Care
- Exposure to EMT-level Skills and Equipment
These skills are reinforced through regular classroom instruction that covers fire science, department policies, ethics, fire prevention, and the chain of command.
Physical fitness is also a core part of the program, with cadets engaging in structured workouts designed to build strength, endurance, and readiness for firefighter physical agility tests. Once eligible, our program offers ride-along opportunities where cadets can shadow career firefighters on calls and participate in station life, including assisting with daily routines and learning from real-time incident responses.
The program also emphasizes professional development through leadership activities, team-building exercises, public speaking practice, and opportunities for community outreach. Cadets gain a clearer understanding of fire service career paths and the requirements for further certification or academy training.
To participate, cadets need parental consent (if minors), be in good standing with their school, medical clearance for physical activity, and a commitment to regular attendance.
Our fire cadet program offers a valuable head start for those considering a career in emergency services. The program provides real-world experience, strengthen resumes, and instills lifelong values of teamwork, service, and dedication.
