Safe Place

All Fire Stations throughout the city of Pembroke Pines serve as Safe Place locations. Safe Place is a national youth outreach for young people 18 years of age up until 21 years. Started by a YMCA teen shelter in Louisville Kentucky in 1983, Safe Place seeks to provide immediate help and safety to teens facing immediate danger from family, strangers and even friends. If a young person needs immediate help or safety, they can depend on any location with a Safe Place sign or text the word "SAFE" along with their current location, address, city, and state to 4HELP (443527). Within seconds they will receive a text with all nearby Safe Place sites and phone number for a local youth agency. If immediate help is needed they can reply with "2chat" to text with a trained counselor.

For more information on the Safe Place Program, please contact the Safe Place Team at info@nationalsafeplace.org or by phone at 502-635-3660.

Safe Haven for Newborns

The City of Pembroke Pines follow the Safe Haven Law established by the Florida Legislature in 2000. The Law enables a person to give up an unwanted infant, seven days old or younger, to any emergency medical technician, paramedic or firefighter at any hospital, emergency medical services station or any fire stations in Florida.

The mother can leave the baby anonymously, no questions asked and without fear of arrest or prosecution, if the baby has not been abused. Once an infant has been left with a person at any of the stated locations, a trained professional will give the baby emergency assistance as needed, and then the baby would be transported to the nearest hospital to later be placed for adoption.

The City of Pembroke Pines Fire Department reminds everyone that if you or someone you know may be in need of further information on Safe Haven, they can contact the Multilingual Florida Helpline at 1-877-767-2229
