Safe Haven for Newborns
The City of Pembroke Pines follow the Safe Haven Law established by the Florida Legislature in 2000. The Law enables a person to give up an unwanted infant, seven days old or younger, to any emergency medical technician, paramedic or firefighter at any hospital, emergency medical services station or any fire stations in Florida.
The mother can leave the baby anonymously, no questions asked and without fear of arrest or prosecution, if the baby has not been abused. Once an infant has been left with a person at any of the stated locations, a trained professional will give the baby emergency assistance as needed, and then the baby would be transported to the nearest hospital to later be placed for adoption.
The City of Pembroke Pines Fire Department reminds everyone that if you or someone you know may be in need of further information on Safe Haven, they can contact the Multilingual Florida Helpline at 1-877-767-2229
