City of Pembroke Pines Gathered to Honor and Remember the Victims of the 9/11 Attacks

Memorial Bell

Pembroke Pines, FL – (September 11, 2019)  Eighteen years later, The City of Pembroke Pines came together for the Annual Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony at the Pembroke Pines Memorial Park, located at 601 City Center Way on Tuesday, September 11, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.  Those in attendance took a moment to remember the 2,996 people who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The Ceremony recognized America’s First Responders and both the men and women who bravely faced the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. The program included the Presentation of Colors by the City of Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Department Honor Guards, a moment of silence, lowering of flags, a national anthem performance by Katie Harmon, patriotic music, a chorus performance by FSU Charter Elementary School, words from guest speaker Jonathan Lopez and comments from Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis and other City Officials.

September 11th will always be a day never forgotten in the collective minds of the country, when a quiet September morning was devastated after hijackers confiscated and seized control of four planes, crashing them into New York’s World Trade Center towers; the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia; and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The City of Pembroke Pines revealed its September 11th Memorial on the Tenth Anniversary (2011) of the attack on Freedom at the Remembrance Ceremony.  The Pembroke Pines Memorial Park is an art project that pays tribute to both the 9/11 victims and survivors, first responders and others that assisted in the recovery.  For more information about the Patriot Day Ceremony, please contact the City of Pembroke Pines Special Events Division at 954-392-2116 or visit
