“Play Ball” Summer Initiative this Friday

Pembroke Pines, FL - (July 9, 2019) It’s that time to break out your bats and gloves as this Friday, July 12, 2019 The Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department will be hosting the Mayor’s Play Ball Summer event in conjunction with the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) and Major League Baseball from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Flamingo Park located at 1900 NW 122nd Terrace in Pembroke Pines.

The free event, which promotes youth baseball and softball, will feature a dunk tank, variety of rides, cotton candy, snow cones, musical entertainment and many more fun activities.  The Play Ball initiative is for both boys and girls ages 7-14.  There will be a Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition with separate age divisions, as well as groups for Beginners and Advanced players.  Each child will be given the option to use either softball or baseball equipment in order to take part in the festivities.

On June 20, 2015, Major League Baseball and the USCM launched the Play Ball initiative that concentrated on the sport of baseball and encouraged sustained involvement in the sport for years to come. Play Ball serves as a platform to bring together those who are presently taking part in the game, while also providing alternative ways for those looking to get involved, with a specific focus on youth participation.  The “Play Ball Summer” initiative concentrates on the fun nature of baseball and promotes both an active and healthy lifestyle for children around the world.

Now through September of 2019, with the support of mayors across the United States, Play Ball Events will be held with the ultimate goal of invigorating communities and generating support and love for the games of baseball and softball.
