Pembroke Pines, FL ( April 3, 2019) – Registration is currently underway for the Ninth Annual Senior Spelling BEE at the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, located at 301 NW 103 Ave. in Pembroke Pines (off Johnson Street, one block west of Palm Avenue).  It will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Center’s Main Hall.

Cash prizes of $50, $30 and $20 are awarded to the first, second and third place finishers, respectively.  Additionally, the 2019 winners will have bragging rights for the next year.  Last year’s winner, Edward Riccardi, correctly spelled the winning word “psychologist.”  Contestants are given a word to spell, followed by the definition, and the term is also used in a sentence if necessary.
