Mayor Frank C. Ortis
Invites Boys and Girls to
"Play Ball” Summer Event
Friday, July 12, 2019

Pembroke Pines, FL (March 28, 2019) – Baseball season is back!  Opening Day is upon us today as Mayor Frank C. Ortis, with the assistance of the Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Division, invites boys and girls to the upcoming Mayor’s Play Ball summer initiative in conjunction with the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) and Major League Baseball on Friday, July 12, 2019 at Flamingo Park, located at 1900 NW 122nd Terrace, in Pembroke Pines.

On June 20, 2015, Major League Baseball and the USCM launched a new Play Ball initiative that focuses on the sport of baseball and encourages continuous involvement in the sport for years to come. Play Ball serves as a platform to unite with those who are presently taking part in the game, while also providing alternative ways for those looking to get involved, with a specific focus on youth participation.  The “Play Ball Summer” initiative emphasizes the extensive participation and fun nature of baseball related activities.  A primary goal of the Play Ball program is to both reach kids who don’t normally play baseball and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Now and throughout the entire summer of 2019, with the assistance of mayors across the country, Play Ball Events will be held with the goal of reviving communities and generating support and love for the game of baseball.  Last year, more than 300 mayors from all 50 states and Puerto Rico hosted Play Ball events.
