Pembroke Pines, FL ( December 18, 2018) – The deadline to enter is fast approaching so if you have what it takes to be the next “Spelling Bee” winner, then join us and register for the Fourth Annual Senior versus Senior Spelling BEE. The friendly competition featuring Pembroke Pines Charter High School Seniors and Southwest Focal Point (SWFP) Senior Citizens will take place on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, located at 301 NW 103 Avenue in Pembroke Pines (off Johnson Street, one block west of Palm Avenue).
Cash prizes of $50, $30 and $20 are awarded to the first, second and third place finishers, respectively. Additionally, the 2019 Winners will have their names engraved on a perpetual cup trophy and bragging rights for the upcoming year. Lastly, resident and community leader Ismael “Izzy” Monroig, Jr. will be returning as the moderator for this annual event.
Those SWFP members interested in participating in the 2019 spelling bee must be at least 60 years of age and should sign up at the Center’s Activities Desk prior to the deadline of February 4, 2019. The event is free for Center members, and a SWFP Membership Card is required to take part. Charter School Seniors should be in 12th grade and register through their school in order to participate.
Transportation to and from the SWFP Center for Charter High School students and faculty will be provided and there will be a luncheon, supplied by Emilio’s Café, for all participants, judges and faculty prior to the start of the spelling bee.
