Pembroke Pines, FL (October 25, 2018) –  A strong contingent was in attendance to celebrate City Government Week in Pembroke Pines at the Charles F. Dodge City Center located at 601 City Center Way on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.  Those in attendance learned more about their city and enjoyed a “cup of Joe” with Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis and other city officials.  The event included a wide array of pastries, coffee, online trivia through social media and an introduction to the city’s interactive robot.  Additionally, staff from city departments were on hand to answer questions, provide demonstrations, present information and highlight programs.

Because city government is the government within close reach to most citizens, and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents, it is crucial that residents have a firm understanding of how their city works, the services it provides and the importance of their active involvement.  The theme “My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It” guided this year’s event.

Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is a weeklong celebration that raises awareness about the importance of municipal government and its daily impact on residents.  The League is the official organization of the municipal governments in Florida.
