Pembroke Pines, FL  (May 7, 2018) -- Please join the City of Pembroke Pines in honoring United States Veterans, both living and deceased, during the Memorial Day Observance and Ceremony on Monday, May 28, 2018 from 9-11 a.m. at Donnith H. Fletcher Park located at 7900 Johnson Street in Pembroke Pines.  The event is free and everyone is invited to attend.

Pembroke Pines resident/Charles W. Flanagan High School Senior Cameron Wheeler will sing the National Anthem. The observance includes the Presentation of Colors by the Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Honor Guard, guest speakers, and concludes with a wreath placing ceremony.
 
Donnith H. Fletcher Park: On June 30, 1970, at the conclusion of the Vietnam War, Donnith H. Fletcher and seven other soldiers were aboard helicopters that were shot down. They were among the 58,000 Americans who died in the11 years of the U.S involvement.  Fletcher received a posthumous Purple Heart. In 1971, City officials dedicated Donnith H. Fletcher Memorial Park in memory of the first Pembroke Pines resident to perish in the Vietnam War.
