Pembroke Pines, FL (April 30, 2018) --
Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis invites people of all ages interested in playing chess to test their ability and join him at the Mayor’s Third Annual Chess Challenge. This free event, supporting scholastic chess, will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Pembroke Lakes Golf Club Nineteen Restaurant, located at 10500 Taft Street in Pembroke Pines.
Contestants will have an opportunity to play chess with Mayor Ortis, City Commissioners, Broward County officials, community leaders and other players at this monthly traveling challenge. Players can win raffle prizes, giveaways and enjoy light refreshments. This is the final chess challenge being held throughout Broward County.
“This is such a great program,” said Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis. “Playing chess not only helps critical and creative thinking skills, it’s also a lot of fun. We are happy to be a part of this event, and encourage everyone to come out and play.”
More than 100 children of all ages have attended previous Mayor’s Chess Challenges in Pembroke Pines.
The Mayor’s Chess Challenge is a First Move event sponsored by the nonprofit America’s Foundation 4 Chess www.af4c.org
. Internationally, America’s Foundation 4 Chess First Move program can be found in Scotland, England, Kenya, St Lucia, Antigua, Suriname and 26 States in the U.S. where approximately 140,000 students participate in the program.
