Pembroke Pines, FL (April 30, 2018) – As part of an ongoing series, there will be a free showing of “Screenagers,” and a panel of experts to share insights on the challenges of growing up in a world filled with technological advances that affect children’s lives, on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way.

This is the second in a series of presentations hosted by Pembroke Pines Commissioner Iris A. Siple, West Campus Charter School Principal Michael Castellano, the Education Roundtable Forum and the City of Pembroke Pines to call attention to and find solutions for the many issues children face today at home and at school.

“Screenagers” is an award-winning documentary that explores how “tech time” impacts a children’s development, and offers solutions on how to empower kids and their families to best navigate and find balance with the digital world.  The panel of local experts that will be present represent the medical, educational, social and law enforcement fields, and will also include student representatives to share insights into this complex issue.

Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston took a deeply personal approach in making “Screenagers,” probing into the corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction.  Throughout this documentary, funny stories are shared along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists and brain scientists.

This presentation is free and open to parents and children 10 years and older.  Community resource information will also be available, parking is free, and light refreshments will be served.

Tickets are not required, however, everyone invited is encouraged to register at https://goo.gl/forms/I5TzfyzRpiLm0m6N2.

For Pembroke Pines Charter Schools, five volunteer hours will be given for each eligible family member.
