Pembroke Pines, FL…. October 18, 2017…The free fantasy fun filled Sixteenth Annual StoryBook Festival takes place on Saturday November 18, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Pembroke Pines Southwest Regional Library, 16835 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines, FL 33331. The free StoryBook Festival combines children’s literature, art, music, fantasy, dance, performances and storytelling into a memorable fun filled day.  As in past years, the first 1,000 children arriving to the Festival will receive a free book. Children are encouraged to come to the Festival in costume to participate in the Story Book Parade at 11:00 a.m.
 
Festival Performances:  Tales by Origami Storyteller by Kuniko Yamamoto, Award Winning Storyteller by Donna Washington, Comedy Magic Show by Brent Gregory, Suzy Hammer as the Book Worm, Fantasy Stew performed by Fantasy Theatre Factory, Children’s Entertainer Marci Poppins, Animal Tales. Music will be provided by the City of Pembroke Pines Charter High School Marching Band and the Recreation and Cultural Arts Department.
 
Festival Activities: Children will enjoy face painting, an arts and crafts tent, meeting fairy tale characters in the Fantasy Forest, participating in the StoryBook Parade (come in costume), meet Elephant & Piggie and Clifford the Big Red Dog and Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue personnel.  Food trucks will be on site, selling tasty treats all day.
 
The 2017 theme “It takes A Village” is in honor of children’s author Leo Lionni, who passed away in 1999. Born in Holland in 1910 Lionni’s artistic and creative skills were recognized worldwide. His paintings and drawings have been on exhibit in galleries from New York to Japan. His career as an author/illustrator of children’s books began in 1959, when he improvised a story for his grandchildren. During his lifetime, Lionni wrote and illustrated more than 40 highly acclaimed children's books and received the 1984 American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal. “It is more than appropriate to honor Mr. Lionni, a four-time Caldecott Honor Winner for Inch by Inch, Frederick, Swimmy, and Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse at this Story Book Festival,” said Holly Bonkowski, Division Director of Cultural Arts City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department.

The StoryBook Festival is funded through the Broward Public Library Foundation with support from the City of Pembroke Pines, Broward Family Life Magazine and Friends of Southwest Regional Library.
