Pembroke Pines, FL… October 11, 2017… Guests attending the City of Pembroke Pines Thirteenth Annual ART Competition enjoyed a festive evening celebrating award winning art and artists. The free Opening ART Competition Exhibition and Reception attracted over three hundred art lovers and included entertainment and refreshments at Studio 18 in the Pines.  The accepted entries and winners in the 13th Annual ART Competition are on display for public viewing November 9, 2017 at Studio 18 in the Pines.
 
City of Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis, Commissioner Jay Schwartz, Commissioner Ismael Monroig and Rose Colombo, Chair of the Pembroke Pines Arts and Cultural Advisory Board assisted in introducing the winning artists listed below and in the presentation of certificates and cash prizes:

Best Drawing Frank Izquierdo for The Inventory
Best Mixed Media Max Lazega for Rock Star
Best Painting Edwardo Serpa for Asimetrico
Best Photography Michael Cairo for Varanasi:  Resting Cow with Dogs
Best Sculpture Alicia Rodriguez for Waterfall
Best Watercolor Bunny Sheffield for Second Hand
Best in Show Lisa Botto Lee for The Black Swan
Festival Poster Winner* Carl Erving for Serenity


Throughout the year, Pembroke Pines provides the community with many opportunities to learn about and become actively involved in art and culture. “Our City embraces the arts,” said Holly Bonkowski, Division Director of Cultural Arts City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. “We established the upcoming Arts Festival in 1997 to give our local artists a platform and create a local arts event for the community. Now we have artists from around the nation coming to the Art Festival. The 13th Annual ART Competition is a fine example of Pembroke Pines creating an opportunity to complement and enhance our arts and cultural environment.”
 
The winners of the ART Competition received a cash prize of $200 and the winner of Best in Show won $500. The winner of Festival Poster* category won $200, a 10 x 10’ space at the 2018 Twentieth Annual Art Festival in the Pines, his artwork will be printed as the limited edition 24” by 48” Festival Poster and the artwork will be featured as the cover of the Art Festival booklet and on all Festival promotional materials.
 
The Twentieth Annual Art Festival will take place on March 10 and 11 2018 at The City of Pembroke Pines Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way.
