Pembroke Pines, FL… September 26, 2017…Issues facing teens in school and sports is the topic of the Second Annual Journalism Summit on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Pembroke Pines Charter High School located at 17189 Sheridan Street in Pembroke Pines from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. Nearly 100 students from the PPCHS Yearbook, Newspaper, Digital Publishing and Journalism classes will attend the Town Hall style Journalism summit in the school’s library.
Students will meet and hear from professionals who have worked in the challenging word of Media. In addition to discussing the importance of researching, fact checking and reporting, the panelists will share stories relating to teens and sports, finding your voice, self-image concerns and coping skill. Panelist will also discuss the need to be spontaneous, flexible, and handle ever-changing issues, technology and deadlines.
The title Raise your Game, Journalism Summit, is a nod to the careers of the guest speakers:
Adam Beasley: Miami Dolphins reporter for the Miami Herald, 790AM The Ticket’s Insider Host.
Jonathan Rosen: An accomplished communicator and self-proclaimed #1 Sports Fan, whose career encompasses many fields from teaching, to writing educational books, Coaching a Softball Travel Team, and Author of Night of the Living Cuddle Bunnies, which was published this year 2017.
Bruce Silverman: Host of the radio show Silverman on Sports, Sports Anchor, Voice of Miami Soccer and a twenty-one year
Herff-Jones Yearbook Representative.
Chris Wittyngham: Miami Dolphins pregame show host, Play by Play broadcaster for beIN Sports, Voice of University of Miami Basketball while attending The U and the Sports Editor of The CHAT the newspaper of his alma mater Pembroke Pines Charter High School.
“The goal of the Journalism Summit is to expose students to the unpredictable days, some exciting and some not, of a journalist working in the field, including meeting deadlines in a 24-hour news cycle,” Faran Fagen, Pembroke Pines Charter High School, Newspaper/Yearbook Adviser and Department Chair Electives. “Last year our students heard from professionals who shared stories and drove home the point that in spite of trials and triumphs working in journalism at any level, will make a difference,” concluded Fagen..
