"Play Ball Summer" Event In Pembroke Pines

Pembroke Pines, FL… May 17, 2017… On Saturday, June 17, 2017 Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis will host a Mayor’s “Play Ball Summer” event for boys and girls ages 7 to 14 years of age from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Flamingo Park, located at 1900 NW 122nd Terrace in Pembroke Pines, FL 33026 (between Sheridan and Taft Street on the East side of Flamingo Road). The free event, which promotes youth baseball and softball, offers a fun filled morning featuring bounce houses, obstacles courses, music, highlighted by a “Pitch, Hit, and Run” Competitions. Competitors will receive a bagged baseball lunch (hot dog, chips and soda).
 
Baseball and/or softball equipment will be provided by the Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Children will be separated by age into a Beginner and Advanced Division to “even out the playing field” and winners in each age division will be given a prize. “In addition to the “Play Ball Summer” activities and bagged lunch, children will enjoy free popcorn, cotton candy, snowcones,” said Tom Joyce, Supervisor for the City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department.  
 
The South Florida Summer heat has arrived.  Pembroke Pines officials advise people to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and please leave pets at home. The Mayor’s Play Ball Summer event hosted by the Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is held in conjunction with the US Conference of Mayors and Major League Baseball. The “Play Ball Summer” initiative focuses on the fun nature of baseball and encourages an active and healthy lifestyle for children around the nation.
