Mayor’s Second Annual Chess Challenge / May 20, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Free event at the Pembroke Lakes Club 19 Restaurant, 10500 Taft Street, for players of all ages and skills. Guests will enjoy playing chess with Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis and City Commissioners, and officials from Broward County in support of Scholastic Chess. Jazz In the Pines Sunday Concerts - The final Free Jazz concert before the summer break will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the William B. Armstrong Dream Park located at 1700 NW 160 Avenue (Dykes Road). Concerts will resume in September. Enjoy great music while relaxing at this beautiful Pembroke Pines park. Eighth Annual City of Pembroke Pines Mayor’s Kids’ Day / Friday, June 16, 2017. Kids may begin registering on June 5, 2017 for this fun filled day, packed with activities and give-a-ways . Mayor Frank C. Ortis hosts the annual dawn to dusk event for Pembroke Pines residents/kids ages 15 and younger, who are pre-registered and wearing the official Mayor's Kids' Day wristband. The day also includes lunch with the Mayor and lots of fun including a dance party, games, cake, a chance to win prizes and pose with mascots. Pembroke Pines business sponsors will attend the lunch to give kids surprises and treats. Mayor's Kids' Day business participation is available through sponsorships and the donation of samples, coupons, prizes, activities and more. Pembroke Pines Fourth of July Celebration takes place on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Pines Recreation Center Festival Grounds, located at 7400 Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines. Wear the colors of the day red, white and blue. Enjoy free children’s rides, game booths, arts and crafts projects, slides, bounce houses, and more. Dance to the music of the band Entourage from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Enjoy great food from the Food Truck Invasion, (15 of them) hot dogs, hamburgers, and much more. The spectacular Fourth of July Pembroke Pines Fireworks show begins at 9:00 p.m. Maximize your comfort, bring blankets and lawn chairs. September 11 Remembrance Ceremony / 8:30 a.m. / September 11, 2017 at the Pembroke Pines Charles F. Dodge City Center Memorial Pavilion, 601 City Center Way in Pembroke Pines.
The Remembrance Ceremony begins with the Presentation of Colors by the City of Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Department Honor Guards and features remarks by Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis and the City Commission. Pastor Peter Tokar will officiate the ceremony and patriotic music will be performed by local school children. Residents are invited to submit non-returnable photos of military loved ones living or deceased, for the “Salute OUR Soldiers” display located on the first floor of Pembroke Pines City Hall.
