Pembroke Pines, FL …February 8, 2017…Pet lovers are invited to the first Pembroke Pines Charter Middle School – West Campus, Student Government Association Pet Adopt/Foster-A-Thon and a Car Wash on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the school campus located at 18501 Pembroke Road, Pembroke Pines, FL 33029. The event will provide an educational opportunity for people to learn the correct ways to behave around animals, what to do in the event a pet gets lost, people/dog etiquette, and much more. Food and beverages will also be available to purchase. Potential adoptive families will meet representatives from Pembroke Pines Pooches in Pines, Milo's Dog Rescue, and United Dog Rescue, in addition to other cat and dog rescue organizations. Staff from the Best Friends Bakery will sell animal treats and West Campus SGA students will assist visitors and collect donations of dog food, treats and cash for the rescue organizations represented. Additionally, the West Campus Robotics Team will hold a car wash to help fund the team’s trip to the State Robotics Competition later in the month. The West Campus Student Government members were inspired to help animals after a fellow member told them about a visit made to a shelter, and how many animals needed a good home. As a group, the students decided to make a difference for unwanted animals and provide an opportunity for the community to meet different rescue groups. “Our SGA West Campus students are great pet lovers. They know abandoned dogs and cats are not simply animals, but creatures who become devoted family members once they find their forever home,” said Caridad Guzman, 7th Grade Language Arts/Student Government Association Advisor at the PPCMS-West Campus. “People are very much like abandoned dogs and cats; they thrive when they are loved.” The Pembroke Pines Charter School System created and built by the City of Pembroke Pines and is home to four elementary schools, three middle schools and one high school housed on five educational campuses throughout the City. Students can begin their education in a Pembroke Pines Charter elementary school, study in a regional library, graduate from the high school and continue their education at Broward College located on a Charter School Campus at the Academic Village. A nationally designated All-America City, Pembroke Pines is a hub of traditional and international flavor, ranging from its residents and businesses to its food and shopping. Easily accessed from I-95, the Florida Turnpike, I-75 and The Palmetto Expressway in South Broward County, Pembroke Pines enjoys a reputation as an innovative and progressive community, which boasts a strong commitment to education, business, and the environment.
