Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration

Pembroke Pines, FL  (December 7, 2022) -- All are invited to join the City of Pembroke Pines in honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way, on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 10 am to 12 noon. 
 
This event will include music, poetry and speeches honoring the man who had a dream. A RISE and SHINE light breakfast will also be served as we celebrate kindness, acceptance and compassion together. There will be a special performance by “The Voices of Liberty” of Spirit of Life Ministries.  And, winners of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Poetry Contest will recite their poetry at the ceremony. 
 
The student poetry contest guidelines include: One entry per student; All pieces must be original writing containing 15 to 300 words; and submissions will be accepted from now until January 6, 2023. Submissions can be emailed to TheFrank@ppines.com. Participants must include in their email submissions: Name; Grade and School; Contact Email and Phone Number; and a .DOC or .PDF document of the original writing.
 
Poetry submissions should reflect upon how Dr. King’s words of kindness, acceptance, and compassion continue to shape our thoughts and actions in the face of injustice and inequality. One winner will be selected from each grade level category and receive a $50 Visa Gift Card: 3rd - 5th Grade; 6th - 8th Grade; 9th - 12th Grade.
