Pembroke Pines, FL (September 23, 2022) - As part of the City of Pembroke Pines award winning series Raising Positive Children, students, parents, grandparents/guardians, educators and youth advocates are invited to experience a very special forum addressing “Helping Young People Thrive in a Screen-Filled World” on Thursday, October 6, 2022, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way. The special guest speaker is Dr. Steve Arcidiacono and there will be a special showing of the movie Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER.
Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER is a film that examines the science behind a teen’s emotional challenges, the interplay of social media, and what can be done in our schools and homes to help our youth build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression in a digital age. Following the movie, Dr. Steve Arcidiacono, a Florida licensed psychologist, published author, and speaker who is currently treating children and families with behavioral and emotional concerns at Boys Town South Florida’s Behavioral Health Clinic, will answer questions and provide further insight into how parents and teens can better understand these challenges, feel empowered to overcome mental health challenges, build emotional agility and stress resilience, and how the impact of social media and other screen time truly affects young people on a daily basis.
“After each of our Raising Positive Children Forums we receive comments from those who participated, and this topic was high on the list for discussing,” said Pembroke Pines Commissioner Iris A. Siple. “It’s a very different world that we live in with technology so much a part of everyday life, and it’s affecting our young people in ways we often aren’t aware of as parents and educators. This movie, coupled with Dr. Steve’s insight, will help open communication and shine a light on concerns many are facing today.”
This is the 10th in a series of presentations hosted by Pembroke Pines Commissioner Iris A. Siple, West Campus Charter School Principal Michael Castellano, the Education Roundtable Forum and the City of Pembroke Pines to call attention to and find solutions for the many issues parents and children face today at home and at school.
