Pembroke Pines, FL – (September 12, 2022) Twenty-One years later, The City of Pembroke Pines came together for the Annual Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony at the Pembroke Pines Memorial Park, located at 601 City Center Way on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Those in attendance took a moment to remember the close to 3,000 people who tragically lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The Ceremony also recognized America’s First Responders who bravely faced the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. The program included the Presentation of Colors by the City of Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Department Honor Guards, a moment of silence, lowering of flags, patriotic music, a chorus performance by FSU Charter Elementary School students, a presentation of proclamations to the talented artists who created the sculptures in Memorial Park in remembrance of 9/11, words from guest speaker Major General Rafael A. Ribas of the United States Army and comments from Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis and other City Officials.
September 11th will always be a day never forgotten in the collective minds of the country, when a quiet September morning turned to horror after hijackers confiscated and seized control of four planes, crashing them into New York’s World Trade Center towers; the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia; and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The City of Pembroke Pines revealed its September 11th Memorial on the Tenth Anniversary (2011) of the attack on Freedom at the Remembrance Ceremony. The Pembroke Pines Memorial Park is an art project that pays tribute to both the 9/11 victims and survivors, first responders and others that assisted in the recovery.
