Pembroke Pines, FL ( December 31, 2019) – The deadline to enter is quickly approaching so if you have what it takes to be the next “Spelling Bee” champion, then join us and register for the Fifth Annual Senior versus Senior Spelling BEE. The friendly competition featuring Pembroke Pines Charter High School Seniors and Southwest Focal Point (SWFP) Senior Citizens will take place on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, located at 301 NW 103 Avenue in Pembroke Pines (off Johnson Street, one block west of Palm Avenue).
Cash prizes of $50, $30 and $20 are awarded to the first, second and third place finishers, respectively. Additionally, the 2020 Winners will have their names engraved on a perpetual cup trophy and bragging rights for the upcoming year.
Those SWFP members interested in participating in the 2020 spelling bee must be at least 60 years of age and should sign up at the Center’s Activities Desk prior to the deadline of February 3, 2020. The event is free for Center members, and a SWFP Membership Card is required to participate. Charter School Seniors should be in 12th grade and register through their school in order to take part in the competition.
Transportation to and from the SWFP Center for Charter High School students and faculty will be provided and there will be a luncheon, supplied by Emilio’s Café, for all contestants, faculty and judges prior to the start of the competition.

Adults 60 years of age or older may register for the free SWFP membership, adults 18 thru 59 years of age can register with an annual fee of $20.
