Participants will have fun during the 2018 Walktober Fitness Challenge at the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center. The challenge, designed to teach the benefits of walking and inspire to make walking a year-round priority, will run October 1 through October 31, 2018.
Participants can walk outside at the SWFP Center, in neighborhoods, parks, on local walking trails, or even indoors at the mall if preferred. And it’s not cheating by walking on a treadmill, riding a stationary bike or participating in one of the Center’s many exercise classes. The important thing is to keep moving and maintain an active lifestyle that will last a lifetime.
The 2018 Walktober Fitness Challenge is open to all registered SWFP members (membership is free). The goal is to walk 31 minutes a day for the 31 days in October. There will be a Group Walk at the Center every Monday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. with a certified fitness Instructor. The instructor will also provide nutritional information and conduct weekly weigh ins.
An October Fitness Log sheet will be provided for participants to enter walking times and weigh in’s. Keeping track of walking is based on the honor system. All participants will get a free prize at the end of the month based on performance and their names will be entered in a free Gift Raffle at the end of the month. Participants are encouraged to take selfies when walking and post them on social media using #PinesWalktober. For more info, call 954-450-6888.
