[ARCHIVED] Raising Positive Children: Growing Up in the Digital Age

Aspart of an ongoing series, there will be a free showing of “Screenagers,” and a
local panel of experts to share insights on the challenges of growing up in a worldfilled with technological advances that affect children’s lives, on Thursday,
May 17, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Charles F. Dodge City Center,located at 601 City Center Way.

 

This
is the second in a series of presentations hosted by Pembroke PinesCommissioner Iris A. Siple, West Campus Charter School Principal Michael
Castellano, the Education Roundtable Forum and the City of Pembroke Pines to callattention to and find solutions for the many issues children face today at home
and at school.

 

“Screenagers”is an award-winning documentary that explores how “tech time” impacts a children’s
development, and offers solutions on how to empower kids and their families tobest navigate and find balance with the digital world.  The panel of local experts that will be
present represent the medical, educational, social and law enforcement fields,and will also include student representatives to share insights into this complex
issue.

 

Physicianand filmmaker Delaney Ruston took a deeply personal approach in making
“Screenagers,” probing into the corners of family life, including her own, toexplore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet
addiction.  Throughout this documentary,funny stories are shared along with surprising insights from authors,
psychologists and brain scientists.

 

Thispresentation is free and open to parents and children 10 years and older.  Community resource information will also be
available, parking is free, and light refreshments will be served.
