This is the best time of year in South Florida to get out the gardening gear, start sprucing up the yard and enter the Natalie Belmonte Great Yards Award before the application deadline on April 12, 2018. The Award was created in memory of Natalie Belmonte , a well-known resident, business woman and nature-lover, who tragically lost her life in July of 2011. Five Pembroke Pines yards will be selected, one yard from each City Commission District and one at-large yard.
Yards will be judged by the Environmental Advisory Board on five components including Butterfly (the preservation of all stages of a butterfly’s life), Design and Function, Maintenance, Florida Friendly Value and Use of Hardscapes. Details of each component and applications are available at the City Clerk’s office in City Hall or by downloading the application from the City’s website at http://www.ppines.com/index.aspx?nid=372 or visit www.ppines.com and click on the Environmental Advisory Board page. Applicants must also provide a brief description of their property, its landscaping, and how it meets the goals of the contest. Ten photos of the yard, which will not be returned, must be included.
For more information, please contact city landscape staff at 954-392-2100 or email to landscape@ppines.com. While application email submittal is preferred, hard copies may be sent to: Natalie Belmonte Contest
