[ARCHIVED] Water Quality Update January 19, 2016

Water Quality Update

The City of Pembroke Pines water supply consists of several wells with varying water quality. Water from these wells are combined at the City’s water treatment plant located at the eastern end of the City’s boundary. While the water source contains a natural discoloration, that may be displeasing, it does not present a danger for human consumption or usage, such as drinking or bathing.

On a regular basis, our water source undergoes a softening treatment for hardness removal, filtration, and chlorine disinfection to ensure all bacteriological contaminates are eliminated from our treated, water supply. The discoloration is removed at the end of the treatment process as it travels through filters that are specific for removing color.

Moreover, these filters were in need of rehabilitation and in order to complete the process, it was necessary to take the color removal system off line. The City’s water treatment personnel are working diligently to rehab the filters and should rectify the discoloration issue within the next two months.

The City is governed by stringent State and Federal requirements to provide a safe water supply to Pembroke Pines consumers and continues to meet these requirements.

If you have any further questions regarding discolored water, please contact the Utility Department at 954-518-9000.
