The City of Pembroke Pines invites students from grades 3 to 12 attending school or residing in Pembroke Pines to respond to a call for original poetry, spoken word, or creative writing pieces as part of the City’s Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration being held on January 15. This literature competition will bring together the voices of the local youth with their reflections on Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. Students from grades 3-12 are encouraged to create an original piece of writing containing at least 15 words and at most 300 words. Only one entry per student is allowed. Submissions will be accepted from Monday, November 20, 2023 until Friday, January 5, 2024. Winners will read their piece during the City of Pembroke Pines’ Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 10 am at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way. One winner will be selected from each grade level category: 3rd Grade – 5th Grade, 6th Grade – 8th Grade and 9th Grade – 12th Grade. Winners will receive a $50 gift card.
