The City of Pembroke Pines would like to thank its residents and businesses for their patience and understanding as we deal with the ransomware attack issue. While transparency is always the goal for a city, in matters such as this and as investigations continue, we need to be extremely careful to not jeopardize progress being made to resolve this situation. Local media were contacted and an update to them was provided. To date, this is information that we can provide:
On January 13, 2022, the City experienced a network disruption that impacted its ability to access certain systems. The City immediately engaged third-party specialists to securely restore impacted systems and conduct an investigation. The City also notified law enforcement. Although the investigation is ongoing, the City can confirm it was the victim of a sophisticated ransomware attack. The City is making significant progress with restoring affected systems. The City has also determined that certain systems containing employee information were affected by the incident. Therefore, although there is no evidence of misuse of information, the City has proactively notified its employees and is providing access to credit monitoring and identity protection services in an abundance of caution. At this time, the City believes the impacted information is limited to its employees. However, should the City’s investigation determine that other resident personal information was affected, the City will provide notices as required. Again, the City appreciates the public’s patience as the City continues dedicating its full resources to responding to this incident.
