The City of Pembroke Pines and the Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery is presenting a new exhibition called Elemental: Terra, Tide & Time, a survey of contemporary artists who explore new frontiers between visual art, environmental stewardship, sustainability and the relational duality between rural and urban environments. Between questions of weather and climate, ruin and entropy, boundary and movement, the artists in this exhibition reflect on how our environment is experienced and imagined. Acting as both researcher and renegade, each artist presents their findings through multiple forms of knowledge and practice including artistic approaches, scientific data, technological intervention and social activism. An opening reception for Elemental: Terra, Tide, & Time is being held at The Frank Gallery on Thursday, February 10, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Guests of the reception will have a chance to participate in a recreation of artist Yoko Ono’s Wish Tree interactive art installation throughout the evening. This opening is free to the public and complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
The exhibition runs February 10 through April 23, 2022. The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery is located at 601 City Center Way. During this exhibition, The Frank’s Third Space Gallery and The Frank Aisles will also feature a roster of talented artists. The Frank Aisles exhibition space is showing artist Melanie Olivia‘s After-image series, a collection of sharp-witted, environmentally-conscious paintings. On the second floor, The Third Space Gallery features Natural Mystic, an exhibition of artworks by artists Andrea Huffman and Meg Wallace who entwine botanical themes with unexpected artistic techniques.
