The City of Pembroke Pines and Studio 18 in the Pines celebrate Peace Day on Tuesday, September 21 at 1 p.m. with a FREE Dreamcatcher Workshop presented by artist Erika Tommie. Erika, who is full blooded Dakota Sioux, intends to secure the Native American authenticity of the Dreamcatcher by preserving the historical meaning, legend, and symbolism of the items used in creating this piece of art. In this workshop Erika shares the oral teachings that have been handed down generation after generation by her people. Being full blooded Dakota Sioux, her heartfelt passion is to keep this sacred practice authentic and true to the original intent.
‘My goals for this project and sharing my love for the Dreamcatcher and the process involved; gives allowance for the participants to feel the spiritual connectedness that comes from the maker/giver of the Dreamcatcher to the recipient and to teach them a hobby that is profitable, yet spiritual in nature.’ Erika Tommie
