[ARCHIVED] Memorial Day Observance

PP-Memorial-Day

Everyone is welcome to join the City of Pembroke Pines in honoring United States Veterans, both living and deceased, during a Memorial Day Virtual Observance Ceremony on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. While we encourage virtual viewing, if you would like to attend the event in person at 7900 Johnson Street, you must follow CDC guidelines regarding masks and social distancing. This event will be available virtually via live streaming on the City’s Instagram and Facebook platforms, and it will be posted after the event on the City’s YouTube channel under Pembroke Pines Media.  The observance will include the Presentation of Colors by the Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Honor Guard.

Memorial Day is a special day set aside to honor and remember all men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day was officially declared a National holiday on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan, National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic.  It was first observed on May 30, 1868 when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The Day is now honored every year on the last Monday of May.

For additional information about the Memorial Day Virtual Observance in Pembroke Pines, please visit www.ppines.com/specialevents or call the Special Events Division at 954-392-2216.
