City Hall will be closed on June 19 in celebration of Juneteenth. In recognition of the day there will be a free celebration on Friday, June 20 from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Charles F. Dodge City Centert for all ages, complete with music, performances, and food. The City of Pembroke Pines has an ordinance that makes Juneteenth an official City holiday. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865 as the date enslaved individuals in Galveston, TX learned they were free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863.
