Community on Patrol

Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy (CPA) classes can also become a part of the Police Department by volunteering with Community on Patrol (COP). This program allows our trained volunteers to be the “eyes and ears” of the department.

After additional training, our volunteers can go out on patrol in one of the marked COP vehicles with a partner and drive throughout the City's neighborhoods and shopping centers being a visible deterrent helping to prevent crime and assist the public when needed. Some jobs of our COP patrols include: standing by with overhead lights on when a vehicle is disabled in the roadway, assisting with directing traffic or pedestrians if needed, blocking roadways and even participating in educational activities such as parades and safety presentations.
