Traffic Unit

The Pembroke Pines Police Traffic Unit oversees the enforcement of traffic laws throughout the city, ensuring the safety of all roadway users. The Traffic Unit functions include:

  • Education, warnings, and enforcement of all traffic laws as per Florida State Statute
  • Crash prevention and investigation
  • DUI enforcement
  • Promoting the use of child restraints
  • Selective enforcement via laser and radar speed detection devices
  • Traffic control at special events
  • Traffic fatalities
  • Traffic law enforcement
  • Traffic-related training

Operations


The Traffic Unit participates in several special traffic operations including:

  • The Buckle-Up Florida seat belt enforcement operation
  • Arrive Alive enforcement campaign, in partnership with the Florida Highway Patrol
  • Multi-agency DUI checkpoints, which are designated to detect impaired motorists
  • High Visibility Enforcement campaigns, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation
  • Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow enforcement campaign
  • Safety checkpoints in conjunction with the State Department of Transportation officers designated to detect unsafe cars and trucks and remove them from the roadways
  • High incident crash intersection enforcement designed as an effort to reduce crashes, injuries, and property damage
