Scope
Welcome to the City of Pembroke Pines Early Development Center Central Campus. Here you will find a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment with experienced, educated, and caring teachers.

Accreditation
Our school has earned the AdvancED Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (CASI) accreditation. This accreditation is only given to schools that offer the highest quality of care and education to young children. The Site Supervisor, Susan L. Cohen, has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University, in addition to many years of experience in early childhood education.

Teachers & Staff
All teachers hold a Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, or a Florida Child Care Professional Credential. Everyone on staff has completed 40 hours of early childhood in-service training. Our staff is CPR and First Aid Certified. The staff has undergone a background screening and fingerprinting process.

Professional Development
As part of their continuing education, everyone on staff is required to attend professional development classes related to early childhood education. They learn developmentally appropriate practices, social / emotional development, emergent literacy, and computer technology throughout the school year.

Voluntary Prekindergarten Program

The school has just completed the fourth year of Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Program. This state-funded program prepares children for kindergarten by helping children develop the skills they will need to become successful readers and students.

Provider Readiness Rate
The Central Campus scored a VPK Provider Readiness Rate of 186 out of a possible 200. The VPK Provider Readiness Rate measures how well a VPK provider prepares four year olds to be ready for kindergarten based upon Florida's VPK Education Standards. The VPK Standards describe what four-year-old children should know and be able to do by the end of the VPK experience.

Library & Classes
Our school library boasts over 3,500 books, CDs, Big Books, and teacher resource materials. Our three- and four-year-old classes participate in the Water Safety Education Program taught by Swim Central. All classes participate in the Stop, Drop, and Roll Program taught by our City’s Fire Department and the Stranger Danger Program taught by our City’s Police Department.

Camps & In-House Activities
Our kindergarten through fifth grade teacher work day mini camps offer field trips and in-house special events. Our summer camp features weekly field trips and swimming twice each week for prekindergarten through fifth graders.

In-house activities and specialists provide age-appropriate activities in the areas of gym, sports, music and movement, art and crafts, drama, science, water play, and cool cooking for our two-year-old through fifth grade programs.

Please drop by any time to see what we do in our preschool!
