Visitors and residents of the City of Pembroke Pines are cordially invited to enjoy the opening event of “Art On Fire: Just Add Water” featuring the Gold Coast Watercolor Society, a free Art Exhibition at Studio 18 in the Pines that represents the very best in watercolor and acrylic painting in experimental, modern and traditional styles. Located at 1101 Poinciana Drive in Pembroke Pines, the exhibition runs January 18, 2019 through February 20, 2019. Everyone is welcome to attend an opening reception being held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 7 p.m. which includes wine, refreshments, music and an opportunity to meet the artists.

Frank Contemporaries on January 24 will highlight artworks created by adult volunteers from The Fellowship Foundation, a non-profit recovery community organization. Catherine Rich, owner of Art Affects, LLC, will present a research study that proves art therapy to be an effective tool for individuals in their journeys toward healing after trauma. This event will include spoken word and poetry performances by Darius V. Daughtry and literary/performing artists of The Art Prevails Project, a not-for-profit performing arts organization dedicated to bridging artistic gaps created by geographical or socio-economic limitations.
This event is free to the public. Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Kandy G. Lopez (M.F.A., Florida Atlantic University) is a visual artist and an Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at Nova Southeastern University. Professor Lopez explores constructed identities and investigates race, the human defense mechanism and armor through fashion and gentrification. Professor Lopez’s work has been recently exhibited at venues such as the Girls’ Club, Cape Cod Museum of Art and the Armory Art Center.
