1939: Hollywood’s Golden Year History of Film Lecture

Thursday, July 19, 2018

History of Film Lecture by Dr. Andrew Strycharski, 7/19/18 6:30 pm 1939 is remembered as “Hollywood’s Golden Year,” with such films as Stagecoach, Gone with the Wind, and The Wizard of Oz among the many memorable films released that year. In this lecture, Dr. Andrew Strycharski will discuss the ways in which The Wizard of Oz created an immersive experience for viewers that was unlike anything they had experienced before—one that remains powerful to this day. Dr. Andrew Strycharski directs the film studies program at Florida International University, where he teaches courses in film history, new media, and renaissance literature. You can find him around town leading film lectures at the Coral Gables Art Cinema and the Miami Jewish Film Festival. His interest in Shakespeare on film has led to research funding from the American Philosophical Association, the Folger Institute, and the Folger Shakespeare Library. This event is free to the public. Refreshments will be served.
