  1. Mask Making and Kente Cloth Making for Kids

    Together with their caretakers, kids discover the artistic traditions of African cultures and learn fun crafting techniques with everyday art materials! Construct striking masks and weave hand-painted textiles inspired by richly colored Ghanaian kente cloth, made famous by the historically gifted Asante and Ewe weavers! Children will learn about the legacy of silken Kente cloth, which was associated with Ashanti royalty during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This event is free to the public. All materials provided. No prior experience required. Ages: 6yrs+

  2. Mayor's Kids Day Event

    The 10th Annual Mayor’s Kids Day Event will take place on Friday, June 21, 2019. The event takes place in the City of Pembroke Pines for Pines Residents Only. On this day Mayor Ortis honors our youngest residents by offering a “fun filled” day which includes businesses and establishments that will offer free services, products or samples to those children who have pre-registered and are wearing a Mayor’s Kids’ Day Wristband. The event works as follows: each child will receive a wristband from the Recreation and Cultural Arts Department from designated locations throughout the city prior to the event day. Then following a set schedule, businesses that have signed up will open their doors at the designated time of their choosing to those wearing the wristbands. The list of participating businesses will be posted on the city’s website. All participants must be Pembroke Pines Residents and visit one of the locations prior to the event day to receive their free wristbands.

  4. Movie Night Under the Stars

    The City of Pembroke Pines Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department welcomes the local community to enjoy a Free Movie Night Under the Stars on Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the plaza, at the Charles F. Dodge City Center located at 601 City Center Way in Pembroke Pines. While enjoying the outdoors, there is plenty of room for residents and guests to spread a blanket, set up both folding and lawn chairs and experience a free outdoor screening of Disney’s The Lion King, hosted by the Frank Art Gallery. For one night only, seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Complimentary popcorn will be provided for everyone in attendance. Additional refreshments and snacks will also be available for purchase. All Children must be supervised. The Frank Art Gallery opened on April 27, 2017. It is a preeminent exhibition and learning area dedicated to creating a cultural atmosphere to promote connections and community engagement.

Frank Contemporaries on June 27 will feature the artworks of artist surrealist painter Alim Smuth, sculptor Ariel Ortega, street artist Sinclair the Vandal, and visual artist Najaa Moon, co-founder of "The Girl's Lunchbox and "The Blck Family". This event is free to the public. Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
