The City of Pembroke Pines hosts and plays a role in a variety of community activities/events to raise funds for The Charter School Foundation, Pooches in Pines and Relay for Life. Residents are encouraged to participate in and enjoy these events throughout the year.
The Pines Light Up the Night 5K Run2018 was recently held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Charles F. Dodge CityCenter. Sponsored by Davis Electric, the proceeds from the 5K run benefited the City of Pembroke Pines Charter Schools. Participants received a RUN/LED Light changing bracelet, free T-shirt or razor tank, and enjoyed festivities after the run, which included a DJ, Food Trucks, free dessert samples, and much more. Taste of Pines2018 is a must-attend event that offers participants the opportunity to sample someof the best food Pembroke Pines and surrounding areas has to offer in a fun atmosphere. This year’s event will beheld on Thursday, February 22, 2018, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way. The 17th Annual Pembroke Pines Charter School Golf Tournament is being held on Friday, March 23,2018 Golf Tournament at the Pembroke Lakes Country Club, located at 10500 Taft Street, from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mayor Frank C. Ortis and Waste Pro proudly present this Annual Pembroke Pines Charter School Golf Tournament which benefits the Pembroke Pines Charter School Foundation.
Over the past 16 years, this event has raised over one million dollars thanks to the generosity of sponsors and golfers. It includes an 18- hole tournament, aputting contest, lunch, refreshments on ‘The Green,’ a cocktail reception with open bar, deluxe buffet dinner, prizes, a live auction and awards. Each player in the tournament also receives a $50 gift certificate from the Pro Shop. All proceeds from the Pembroke Pines Charter School Golf Tournament directly enhance each student’s educational experience through the Charter School Foundation. TheTournament begins at 10:30 a.m. with registration, a putting contest, adelicious lunch and then a shot-gun tee off at 12:30 p.m. The Driving Range and Practice tee will alsobe open. A cocktail reception with open bar begins at 5:30 p.m. with a deluxe buffet, prize presentations and a live auction.

The 20thAnniversary of Relay for Life of Pembroke Pines will celebrate 20 years of hope on April 13, 2018 at 6 p.m. to April 14, 2018 at 9 a.m. The event takes place at the Walter C. Young Middle School track, located at 901 NW 129 Ave. Over the years, the City has raised over two and half million dollars to fight cancer via this Relay for Life event. The Relay is an organized overnight community fundraising walk where teams of people camp out around a track and members of each team take turns walking around the track. There will be entertainment, music, food and fun all night long that builds camaraderie in a family-friendly environment for the entire community.
